VCF East 2024

We had a discussion over on Discord about potentially exhibiting at a vintage technology event, so I reached out to the organizers of VCF East, and they were agreeable to having webOS represented. "Gone but not forgotten" was their thematic affirmation.

I think the schedule is still a little tentative, but it currently looks to be happening April 5-7, 2024. There's also a survey out about location, but in the past it has been at InfoAge Science and History Museums in Wall, NJ.

Anyone interested in participating?

Living on a different continent, I think it highly unlikely I will visit this event, but I'm happy to throw in some thoughts.

I agree that a webOS meetup style gathering, with people bringing their devices would be a good start and I also think the following would be good ideas:

The ability to demonstrate that webOS can still operate with the provision of access to the proxy service.
Demonstrations of LuneOS with information about the project.
Signage with links to this forum and the discord at minimum, maybe other relevant websites (webOS ports, pivotCE etc.)
Maybe some kind of timeline graphic and / or list of projects.
Not sure about this (maybe more trouble than it's worth in practice), but if anyone attending has an "excess" of devices, these could be sold to anyone interested, set up to go…
I see there are remote options - presumably streams of the talks. We could "live-chat" along with the event? My suggestion on Discord was a TP on the stall open to discord.

As above, I'm unlikely to attend, so what actually happens is up to those that do, but I'm willing to help with items 3 & 4.

We had an awesome session at VCF East! More than 50 people were in attendance -- pretty good, considering the talk was at the same time that Consignment Sales first started! The audience was interested and interactive, and I got to talk 1:1 with some folks after -- including the author of "Practical Palm Pre webOS Projects", one of the first (and few) books for our little platform.

They said it'll take at least a week for video editing and posting, but here are my slides from the talk:
